15-day Umrah visits to avert crowding in Haram Mosque

The Haj Ministry has developed new control mechanisms that will limit the stay of Umrah pilgrims to 15 days. 

The new quotas will be directly proportionate to the capacity inside the Grand Mosque. The new mechanisms will also force Umrah firms to limit the number of pilgrims they take on in a bid to avert congestion during Ramadan.


Firms will also be obliged to inform the Haj Ministry of changes to accommodation arrangements.
Umrah service providers have been given one week to respond to the new proposal in order to come up with a unified strategy before the next Umrah season.


Haj Minister Bandar Hajjar discussed these issues during a recent meeting held with high-ranking officials in Madinah.


The meeting brought together the heads of Umrah firms and top hospitality companies and establishments.


The minister stressed the importance of establishing programs that will gauge the quality of service packages offered to pilgrims.


“The ministry is not only concerned with operational plans, but also with quality,” said the minister. 
Hatem Al-Qadi, official spokesman of the Haj Ministry, said the meeting came after the end of the recent Umrah season, which saw more than 6 million pilgrims flock to the Kingdom from abroad.
“The meeting reviewed operational plans that had been put in place during the last Umrah season in order to stop mistakes from recurring,” said Al-Qadi.
